Abstract:
Hepatitis C is a major problem of transfusion-transmitted diseases. However, the worldwide
prevalence has been substantial reduced after hepatitis C antibody testing among blood donors has
been initiated. This study was conducted in 115 hemophilia patients; mean± SD for age was 20.9±11.2
years. Of those 115 patients, 85% were diagnosed with hemophilia A while the rest were hemophilia
B. Hepatitis C seropositive was found in 59% of the patients who were born before 1992 whereas only
2.7% was found in patients who born after 1992. The relative risk of developing hepatitis C seropositive
was 5.1 among patients who were born before 1992 compare to those who were born after 1992 (95%
CI 6.7-397 p-value < 0.001).
