Established in 1991, the journal was originally published as the Thai Journal of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine (pISSN: 0858-2505). In 2008, it adopted its current title, Journal of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine (pISSN: 2985-2390), reflecting its continued commitment to publishing high-quality research in hematology and transfusion medicine. Since its establishment in 1999, the Journal has maintained an uninterrupted publication record, publishing more than 140 issues and over 1,200 articles over three decades.

The journal has been certified as a Tier 1 journal by the Thai-Journal Citation Index (TCI) Centre, recognizing its high editorial quality and publication standards. To further enhance its quality, accessibility, and international impact, the journal has accepted only English-language manuscript submissions and has offered full online access (eISSN: 2985-2404) since Issue 4 of 2023

Journal of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine is an official Journal of the Thai Society of Hematology and the National Blood Centre, Thai Red Cross Society.
