Anemia of Inpatient

Abstract :

Anemia is a common problem coinciding with other problems, which brings patients to hospitals. Anemia is usually an ignored problem by internists eventhough there is evidence showing significant impact of anemia on many systems. We proposed a flow chart for investigating the causes of anemia of inpatients, which should be convenient for the internists. The flow chart is based on the pathophysiological causes of anemia and is made orderly. It is known that the causes of anemia can be more than one cause, this flow chart will help to find the main cause of anemia for certain patients. In this paper, we investigated the main causes of 42 anemic inpatients and found that most of the causes are anemia of inflammation and a combination of anemia of inflammation and anemia of chronic kidney disease, accounting for 16 patients. The responses of these patients to treatment will be followed.
