Abstract

Abstract: A 4-month-old girl presented with fever, hepatosplenomegaly, scalp nodules and pancytopenia. She was diagnosed as hemophagocytic syndrome and treated with antibiotics, packed red cell and platelet transfusion. Her signs and symptoms were resolved. Regular complete blood count and physical examination at outpatient clinic was followed. 1 year later, she presented with diarrhea and abdominal mass. CBC showed pancytopenia with blastic cells in peripheral blood smear. Bone marrow examination confirmed the diagnosis of acute non-lymphoblastic leukemia, M1 subtype. The patients who presented with hemophagocytic syndrome should be closely followed up. Hematologic malignancies may be late presentation in this group of patients.
