Improvement of Reporting Efficiency in Consumer Protection of Community Public Health, Phrae Province: using Lean Concept

Abstract

Introduction: Problems in reporting of consumer protection in community health of Phrae Province were observed including a delay in the report preparation, much report content and more steps of procedure, that caused wasting time and budget. Improvement of reporting efficiency is important and needed.  Objective: To develop procedures for reporting of consumer protection results in community and to evaluate the performance of the reporting by using Lean concept. Methods: This study was a developmental research. The development was based on the Lean Concept of Womack and Jones to classify activities into value and non-value added activity, then removed non-value added and unnecessary activities, but necessary activity was developed by ECRS technique. The samples of 135 people were selected by purposive sampling. The data was collected in 11 months (November, 2014 to September, 2015). The record form was used as a tool for data collection. Results: It was founded that the step of process work was decreased from 26 activities to 13 activities. From this result, the average process time and paper were consumed decreasing 82.80% and 79.96% respectively. Conclusion: The step of process work, the process time and budget were decreased after using Lean concept. For improvement of the reporting efficiency in consumer protection in Community health, Lean concept will be used continuously.
