Satisfaction with Compensation of Hospital Pharmacists under the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand

Abstract
Introduction: The purposes of this survey research were to determine degree of satisfaction with compensation of hospital pharmacists under the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand and to compare the results with pharmacists who work in the community hospital, general hospital and regional hospital. Method: A validated questionnaire was developed for collecting data. Pharmacists from three groups of hospitals were selected from a stratified random sample of 1,500 pharmacists. The data were analyzed by ANOVA. Results: The response rate of questionnaire survey was 33.6%. The mean satisfaction with compensation of all hospital pharmacists was 2.10 (SD=0.53). The mean satisfaction towards compensations of pharmacists in the community hospital, general hospital and regional hospital was 2.14; SD=0.54; 2.02, SD=0.49; and 1.97, SD=0.50; respectively. Moreover, mean satisfaction with compensation of pharmacists working in the community hospital was significantly greater than for pharmacists working in the regional hospital (2.14 and 1.97, p<0.05, respectively). Conclusion: This survey showed satisfaction towards compensation of hospital pharmacists working in the community hospital, general hospital and regional hospital is low. The data support the need for improvement of the compensation for hospital pharmacists to provide an incentive to practice under the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Health.
