Abstract

Introduction: Safety is the crucial part of pharmacy practice in laboratory room. Lab safety project was initiated for developing the standard laboratory room and training pharmacy students before studying science courses in laboratories. Materials and Method: Samples were 77 of the second year students who firstly registered in a course with laboratory in the academic year of 2011. Students’ knowledge was assessed before and after a lecture with the demonstration by instructors and scientists. Students were assessed lab safety knowledge application and satisfaction on the project by using 5-likert scale questionnaires. Paired t-test was used for comparison of pretest and posttest. Results: After a lecture with the demonstration, students had increased knowledge score from pre-test with a statistical significance (24.94±3.11and 32.60±2.31,p<0.001 respectively). For knowledge application, students have concerned more on lab safety during operating in laboratories with an average score of 4.29±0.08 (from 5). Students were satisfied on this project with the highest score of 4.59±0.57 (from 5).Conclusion: The lab safety project can enhance students’ knowledge, their application in courses with laboratory and their satisfaction on the lab safety project. This information will be used for the development of the lab safety project in the future.
