Abstract

Suicide is a global problem, having an impact on the development of societies and countries, as well as people's mental health. This problem leads to the loss of human resources which is an important factor in national economic development. According to this study, there are many causes and risk factors of suicide, both biology and genetic. Two major problems are biological factors such as functional and structural brain abnormalities, and mental factors such as psychosis. Everyone has their own coping strategy which can lead to suicidal behavior. Apart from that, social environment and context can cause stress as well. Once there is a suicidal case, there will be an imitation of suicidal behavior. These problems are challenging for psychiatric nurses to provide nursing care using nursing knowledge, experiences, theories, and procedures in order to help assist people at risk of committing suicide. These actions would help reduce suicide.
