FACEBOOK ADDICTION AND EFFECT ON MENTAL HEALTH IN YOUTH

Facebook is the most popular social networking site on the internet today reflected from users all over the world. The number of the members has increased dramatically. Especially, children and youth with behavior of intensively Facebook using that increase the risks of addiction. There is the recent discovery that addictive symptom of Facebook addiction is based on addiction criteria (DSM-IV). That is, the addicts can’t control their own Facebook usage behavior (loss of control), need to increase the usage time (tolerance), Negative feelings or anxiety when not in use (withdrawal), and back to use it again when they can't stand no more in finally (relapse). That's the result of the brain mechanisms in the Reward system, and to meet the basic social needs and was attracted to the social reward. Fear of missing out (FOMO) or fear of missing out condition has to be updated the information at all times. Although, these effects are not clearly noticeable same with other addictive substances since it is a new scientific issue that requires further study. Guidelines for the prevention and resolution of mental health problems that are likely to affect young people at risk of Facebook addiction should be aware of applying about caring plan for children and youth.
