Effect of the Integrated Safety Promotion Program on Safety Work Practices of Waste Collectors

This quasi-experimental research aimed to examine the effect of the integrated safety promotion program on safety work practices of waste collectors. The participants consisted of 54 waste collectors working in Muang and Su-ngai Kolok Districts, Narathiwat Province. They were equally divided into an experimental group (n = 27) and a control group (n = 27). The research instruments included an integrated safety promotion program, a personal information questionnaire, and a safety work practices questionnaire with a reliability of .92. The implementation and data collection were conducted from August to November 2021. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi-square test, Fisher’s exact test, paired t-test, and independent t-test.
The research results revealed that 1) after the experiment, the experimental group had statistically significantly higher mean score of safety work practices than before the experiment (t = 52.305, p < .001); and 2) after the experiment, the experimental group had statistically significantly higher mean score of safety work practices than the control group (t = 4.554, p < .001).
This research suggests that related agencies should implement an integrated safety promotion program to develop knowledge and safety work practices of waste collectors to reduce work-related illnesses and injuries.
