Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Rubber Seed Kernel (RSK) in diets on the productive performance and carcass quality of meat ducks.

Materials and Methods: The research was carried out in a completely randomized design. A total of 192 two-week -old Barbary ducks (both genders) were assigned to four treatments and four replications with 12 ducks each. They were fed diets containing 0% (control), 10%, 20%, and 30% RSK. The productive performance of meat ducks was measured between 2-12 weeks of age. At the 12th week of rearing, two ducks from every group were randomly selected, and carcass quality was evaluated.

Results: The results showed that meat ducks fed 10% RSK overall (during 2-12 weeks) had better growth rates than 30% RSK (p<0.01). There were no significant differences between the four treatment diets on the feed intake and feed conversion ratio (p>0.05). The carcass quality showed that carcass weight without visceral organs, dressing percentage, meat color, drip loss percentage, and cooking loss percentage were not significantly different among treatments (p>0.05).

Conclusion: The results of this study concluded that 10% RSK was suitable for meat duck diets without having a negative effect on productive performance or carcass characteristics.
