Relationship between Attitudes toward Nursing Profession Academic Achievement and Nursing Competencies among Graduate Nurses of Kuakarun Faculty of Nursing

Abstract

This research aimed to study the predicting correlation between attitudes toward nursing profession, academic achievement and nursing competencies among graduate nurses. The sample included 197 graduate nurses of Kuakarun Faculty of Nursing in 2013. The instrument used in the study was a set of questionnaires including Academic Achievement (GPA), the attitudes toward nursing profession and nursing competencies. Reliability of instruments were .85 and .89 respectively. Data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s coefficient of correlation and stepwise multiple regression. The results of this study showed that the overall mean of academic achievement (GPA) was at a moderate level; the overall mean of the attitudes toward nursing profession and nursing competencies was as the high level. The attitudes toward

nursing profession was positive significantly associated with nursing competencies. The stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that the attitudes toward nursing profession could explain nursing competencies 32.6%. Academic achievement (GPA) was not significantly associated with nursing competencies.
