Abstract
The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to study the effect of motivation promoting program on alcohol drinking prevention behavior among early adolescents. Concept of the drinking motive was used as the conceptual framework to develop the program in this study. Secondary school students (early male and female adolescents) at the second grade were assigned, using a matched pair technique for the control and experimental groups (25 for each group). The control group has been given usual knowledge while the experimental group received the motivation promoting program on alcohol drinking prevention behavior. Data collection instruments comprised of the alcohol drinking prevention behavior questionnaires (alpha= .71), positive alcohol expectancies and negative alcohol expectancies questionnaires (alpha= .81 and .86 respectively). Descriptive statistics and student t-test were used to analyze data.
The major findings were as the followings:
1. The alcohol drinking prevention behavior score of early adolescents after receiving the motivation promoting program was higher than that of early adolescents before receiving the motivation promoting program at the level of the .05.
2. The alcohol drinking prevention behavior score of early adolescents who received the motivation promoting program was significantly higher than that of early adolescents who received usual knowledge at the level of .05.
