Abstract

This qua-si experimental research study aimed to compare dietary behaviosr in patients undergoing percutaneous intervention between the group receiving educative supportive nursing  program (experimental group) and the group receiving usual care (control group).Participants were recruited from a cardiac out-patient unit,  Bang Nam Prieo Hospital, Chachoengsao Province. Each group was composed of 22 cardiac participants undergoing percutaneous transluminal coronary intervention.  The control group received usual care with a 4-time data collection with 2 weeks apart (30-45 minutes/visit).  The tools were  composed of a Thai version of Heart Healthy Eating questionnaire, and the Appraisal of self-care agency (ASA). The alpha coefficients were 0.70 equally.  Descriptive analysis composed of percentages, mean, and standard deviation.  Inferential analysis including the student t-test was used to analyze data.

The results revealed that

1. After participating in the educative supportive nursing program, the mean score of dietary behavior among patients after percutaneous transluminal coronary intervention was significantly higher than that before participating in the program (p<.05).

2. After receiving the educative supportive nursing program, the mean score of dietary behavior among patients after percutaneous transluminal coronary intervention, was significantly higher than that of patients receiving usual care (p<.05).

This research finding showed that the educative supportive nursing program given could increase self-care ability and the dietary behavioral score in patients undergoing percutaneous transluminal coronary intervention
