Relationship between Academic Admission Scores and Academic Achievement of the First Year Nursing Students of Kuakarun Faculty of Nursing, Navamindradhiraj University

Abstract
This research aimed to study the relationship between academic admission scores and academic achievement of the first year nursing students of Kuakarun Faculty of Nursing, Navamindradhiraj University. The sample was 199 the first year nursing students in academic year 2013. The data collection tools consisted of raw scores of Grade Point Average (GPAX), raw scores of basic science from high school, raw scores of general education courses on bachelor of nursing science program, and raw scores of the first year in nursing curriculum. Data were analyzed by using mean, standard deviation and Pearson’s coefficient of correlation. The results were as follows.
1. There was positive correlation at the low level with the significant level of .01 between raw scores of Basic Science from high school and raw scores of general education courses on bachelor of nursing science program such as Thai Language (r = .212), English (r = .424) Physics (r = .214), Chemistry (r = .252), and Biology (r = .463).
2. There was positive correlation at the low level with the significant level between raw scores of basic science from high school and raw scores of the first year in nursing curriculum such as English (r = .200, p < .01), Chemistry (r = .185, p < .01), Biology(r = .414, p < .01), Thai Language (r = .156, p < .05), and Sociology (r = .145, p < .05).
3. There was positive correlation at the low level with the significant level of .01 between raw scores of Grade Point Average (GPAX) and raw scores of general education courses on bachelor of nursing science program such as Thai Language (r = .210), Sociology (r = .252), Physics (r = .298), Chemistry (r = .336), and Biology (r = .225).
4. There was positive correlation at the low level with the significant level of .01 between raw scores of Grade Point Average (GPAX) and raw scores of the first year in nursing curriculum (r = .304)
