Abstract

This quasi - experimental research was a two-group design with pre-test, post-test, and follow - up measurements, aimed to compare the awareness and preventive behaviors against dengue fever risk factors among high school students in Dusit District, Bangkok. The sample consisted of 76 students aged 14 - 17 years and was a multi-stage sampling. The experimental group received a 12 - week health literacy promotion program, while the control group received standard care from teachers and school health nurses. Data were collected at three stages: before, after the experiment, and during the follow-up period. Questionnaires were used to assess awareness and preventive behaviors related to dengue fever risk factors. The content validity index (CVI) was .82 and .85, and the reliability was tested using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, which was .93 and .90. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, t-test statistics, and repeated-measures ANOVA.

The findings of the study revealed that after the intervention, the experimental group had higher average scores in preventive behaviors in the experimental group was higher than before the intervention (F = 36.08, p-value < .001) and significantly different from the control group (F = 8.20, p-value = .005). Therefore, the health literacy enhancement program can effectively improve risk prevention behaviors and can be applied to high school students to promote health literacy, awareness, and behaviors aimed at preventing risk factors for dengue fever.
