Main Article Content
Abstract
This study employed a two group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design to investigate the effects of a breastfeeding-promoting program utilizing the social media application LINE on breastfeeding knowledge and the rate of exclusive of exclusive breastfeeding in working mothers. The sample consisted of 30 pregnant women who were selected by a specific targeted program and recruited into the experimental group, and 30 pregnant women recruited into the control group. Data were collected using a knowledge test, a follow-up record, and a semi-structured interview. The quality of research instruments was evaluated using the Content Validity Index (CVI ≥ .88), and the reliability was determined using KR-20 = .82. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent and paired t-tests with a significant level of .05, and content analysis for qualitative data.
The results revealed that the experimental group had significantly higher knowledge scores than the control group (p-value < .01), and the rate of exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months was 4 times higher in the experimental group than in the control group. The obstacles identified were the nature of a job, time, and place for expressing breast milk. The success factors were guidance, exchanging support within the LINE group, building empowerment, and home visits. Therefore, the program should be implemented in other hospitals, and the application should be further developed to promote health knowledge and the use of information technology among pregnant women and postpartum mothers.
