Factors Influencing the Ability of Self-Directed Learning of the Nursing Students, Faculty of Nursing, Kasem Bundit University

Abstract

            The predictive descriptive research design aimed to study the predictive factors on the self-directed learning ability of the nursing students, Faculty of Nursing, Kasem Bundit University. The sample were 176, first to fourth year nursing students, in the academic year 2021. The subjects obtained through stratified random sampling. Research instrument was the self-assessment for self-directed learning ability, and 5 sets questionnaire of intrinsic and external factor. The reliability value of self-directed learning ability scale was .95, basic learning skills scale was .85, learning responsibility scale was .83, intrinsic motivation towards learning scale was .84, instructional design to support learning scale was .92 and learning environment scale was .93. Data were analyzed by means, standard deviation, Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis.


            The research findings were as follows: The nursing students had the self-directed learning ability in the high level (gif.latex?\bar{x} = 4.20, S.D = .55). The predictor variables were the intrinsic motivation towards learning, the basic learning skills and the instructional design to support learning. Which affected on the ability of self-directed learning of the nursing students were statistically significant at .01 level. (F = 11.376). The multiple correlation coefficient (R = .807) and the power of prediction was 65.20%.
