Abstract

This participatory action research (PAR) aimed to study 1) digital media addiction problems among early childhood and 2) the development and evaluation prevention models of digital media addiction for early childhood with participation of families and communities in Roi-et province. The participants comprised 50 people who were early childhood parents, teachers, community leaders, public health officers and village health volunteers. They were selected by purposive sampling. The study was conducted by using self-efficacy (gif.latex?\alpha = .87) and parent’s practices in the use of digital media with early childhood (gif.latex?\alpha = .91) as well as questionnaires, knowledge tests (KR-20 = .90), participant observation, focus group and in-depth interview. The quantitative data was analyzed by descriptive statistics and paired t-tests. The qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis.

The results showed that 51.25% of the early childhood had a frenzied addiction to digital media use. Early childhood parents had a low level of digital media use at 63.75%. The prevention models of digital media addiction for early childhood with participation of families and communities consisted of 6 activities regarding the participation of developing network partners. The results manifested that parents gained knowledge of self-efficacy, practices in using digital media with early childhood. Moreover, the digital media addiction among early childhood was statistically and significantly better than before using the model (p-value < .05). Consequently, parents and network partners should provide continuous monitoring and promote proper digital media use in early childhood.
