Abstract

This cross-sectional descriptive study aimed to study the effects of the predisposing, enabling, reinforcing and predictive factors influencing the prevention behavior of dengue hemorrhagic fever among people in the districts with high-morbidity rate in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. Multistage random sampling was used to recruit 310 participants. Data collection tool was a questionnaire with the index of item-objective congruence (IOC) in the range of .67 - 1.00; KR-20 was .71, and the coefficient alpha was .88. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and analytical statistics with multiple regression analysis.

The findings revealed that knowledge, attitude, social support, enabling factors, and prevention behavior of dengue hemorrhagic fever among the experimental group were moderate while motivation was high. Positive social support, attitudes, and motivation as well as general labor jobs were predictive factors for the prevention behavior of dengue hemorrhagic fever 39.80 (R2 = .398). Social support, attitudes, and motivation were positive predictive factors; however, such occupations as general employees and salespersons were negative predictive factors. The results suggested that appropriate incentives, proper social supports, positive attitude development and preventive motivation from front organizations played important roles in enabling people to have appropriate prevention behavior of dengue hemorrhagic fever.
