The Development of Supplementary Lesson via Google Classroom on Community Mapping for Nursing Students at Kuakarun Faculty of Nursing
Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective of this action research is to develop a supplementary lesson via Google Classroom on community mapping for nursing students at Kuakarun Faculty of Nursing. The sample comprised 39 fourth-year nursing students in Bachelor of Nursing Science in the academic year 2019 at Kuakarun Faculty of Nursing. The supplementary lesson via Google Classroom was developed through a 4 - step action research process, namely planning, action, observing, and reflecting, totaling 3 cycles. Flipped Classroom was applied for strategy formulation. The developed lesson was piloted in the Classroom for three cycles. Data were collected through test, satisfaction surveys, focus group discussions, and behavior observation records. The content validity of the research instrument was validated by five experts, with a content consistency index of .67 - 1.00. The validity of the test and satisfaction assessment was analyzed by using Cronbach's alpha between .78 and .83, respectively. Data were analyzed by descriptive and dependent t-test statistics (p-value < .05).
The results of this research indicated that the efficiency index of the developed supplementary lesson via Google Classroom on Community Mapping was 89.91 and 85.64, which was higher than the standard criteria. After implementing the developed supplementary lesson (third cycle), the academic achievement among the sample was statistically higher than before attending the supplementary lesson (t-test = 11.12, Sig = .000), with the highest level of satisfaction. The findings suggested that educators should create the supplementary lesson through Google Classroom in order to attract attention and support students’ self-directed learning outside of their Classroom anywhere and anytime.
