Abstract

This descriptive and predictive study aimed to study the new normal health behaviors and predictive factors among diabetic patients in the community. The conceptual framework was based on a health belief model. Participants were 148 diabetic patients in the community and they were selected by purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through demographic data form, the perceived health of health belief model questionnaire, and the new normal health behaviors questionnaire. These questionnaires were tested for content validity index (CVI) by a panel of experts. The CVIs were .82 and .97. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was .70 and .85. Data were analyzed using stepwise multiple regressions.

The findings revealed that the diabetic patients in the community had a high level of new normal health behaviors (gif.latex?\bar{x} = 3.22, S.D = .40). Perceived barriers (gif.latex?\beta= .185), perceived self-efficacy (gif.latex?\beta= .542), and social support (gif.latex?\beta= .218) were variables which statistically predicted the new normal health behaviors in diabetic patients in the community at 50.60 percent (R2 adj= .506) of variance. The community nurses could utilize the findings of this study as the empirical evidence to plan for further intervention enhancing proper new normal health behaviors among diabetic patients. Furthermore, the motivation for self-care behaviors could enhance sustainable and positive health outcomes to reduce the complications of diabetes.
