Abstract

This descriptive research aimed to investigate the level of COVID-19 preventive behavior and relationship between health belief and COVID-19 preventive behavior among community-dwelling older adults. The sample comprised 173 older adults in the community. Data were collected through demographic interview form, a health belief perception questionnaire on COVID-19 prevention and the COVID-19 preventive behavior among community-dwelling older adults. The validity was approved by five experts with the CVI of .85 and .90. The reliability was measured by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient at .93 and .85. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and correlation coefficient of spearman.

The results revealed that 69.36% of the participants had a high level of COVID-19 prevention behavior. This preventive behavior among community-dwelling older adults was associated with cues to action, perceived self-efficacy, perceived benefits, perceived susceptibility and perceived barriers at the significance level of .01. However, there was no relationship with perceived severity. Research suggested promoting health beliefs for COVID-19 infection prevention behaviors among older adults to undertake the preventive measures and prevent further community spread during the pandemic.
