Experiences of Emergency Nurse Working under COVID-19 Pandemic Circumstances of a University Hospital

Abstract
This qualitative, hermeneutic phenomenological study aimed to explore the lived experience of emergency nurses working under COVID-19 pandemic circumstances in an university hospital. The Heidegger hermeneutic phenomenological was guided as research methodology. Purposeful and snowball were used for the recruitment of participants. The participants were 15 emergency nurses who had experienced working under COVID-19 pandemic. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews, field notes and non-participant observation. Data analysis was guided by Max van Manen’s method with content analysis.
The major findings of this study were consisted of 6 themes: 1) Be alert, prepare 2) Be confident, administrative policies, 3) Change quickly, communicate, 4) Coordinate remoteness, 5) Fulfill with care, be responsible, and 6) support and understand. The results of this study can be used as necessary information to develop the nursing protocols for nursing practice and administration. Also, the results of this study may be the need for involvement of health care policies in health care services in order to prepare for emergency nurses who continue to work under the COVID-19 pandemic.
