Outcome of Self-Efficacy Enhancement Program on Knowledge and Confidence to Prevent Complications of Hypertension and Diabetic Mellitus of the Elderly in the Puranawat Temple Elderly Club, Bangkok

Abstract
The research was quasi-experimental research with one group pre and post test design. The objective was to study the outcome of self-efficacy enhancement program on knowledge and confidence to prevent complications of hypertension and diabetic mellitus of the elderly. The samples were the elderly in the Puranawat Temple Elderly Club, Bangkok who had history of hypertension or diabetic mellitus. There were thirty samples who were selected by purposive sampling and participated the three days program. The research tool was the modified program of Self-Efficacy Theory and the program was conducted by video presentation of knowledge and practice. Data were collected by questionnaires and were analyzed by percent, mean, standard deviation and paired t-test.
The research results that The elderly in the Puranawat Temple Elderly Club had good level of health care knowledge to prevent complications of hypertension and diabetic mellitus before program participation. After program participation, they had very good level of knowledge which was better than the level of knowledge before program participation with statistical significance (p-value < .01). The samples had average level of confidence in health care before program participation. After program participation, they had high level of confidence which was higher than the level of confidence before program participation with statistical significance (p-value < .01). Therefore, this program could be applied for elderly health care to prevent complications of hypertension and diabetes mellitus.
