Locomotive Syndrome: Hidden Health Condition in Older Adults
Main Article Content
Abstract
Locomotive syndrome is a physical health problem resulted in a decrease capable movement and balance due to the degeneration of the musculoskeletal and nervous system, which is frequently found in older adults. This locomotion problem is older adults’ physical frailty affected their routines, the decline in social participation, and may affect phychological as a consequence of suffering from the related symptoms such as pain, stiffness, and muscle weakness. Furthermore, locomotive syndrome may cause an increase in older adults’ dependence and a need for long term care. Giving information related to Locomotive syndrome, rehabilitation and prevention are necessary to make the older adults adapted themselves appropriately. Consequently, it is an important role for the health team especially the nurses to give advice, education, and plan the older adults’ comprehensive health care to help older adults take care of themselves and have a good quality of life according to their potential.
