Relationships between Associated Factors, Spiritual Health Promotion and Spiritual Well-Being of Professional Nurses in Hospitals Southern Thailand

Abstract

The purposes of this descriptive study were to: examine spiritual health promotion, examine spiritual well-being, and determine the associated factors and spiritual health promotion with spiritual well-being in hospitals Southern Thailand. The samples were 350 professional nurses selected by a simple random technique. Three questionnaires were used including Demographic Characteristics, a Spiritual Health Promotion Questionnaire (SHPQ) and a Spiritual Well-Being Questionnaire (SWBQ). The SHPQ and SWBQ were developed by the researcher based on literature review of spirituality in East and West Perspectives. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of SHPQ and SWBQ were 0.84 and 0.88, respectively. Data analyses were accomplished using percentages, means, standard deviations, Spearman Correlation Coefficients and Eta Correlation.
Results of this study showed that 1) The total scores of spiritual health promotion were at moderate level. 2) The total scores of spiritual well-being were at  high level. 3) The significant factors associated with spiritual well-being were religious activities, families, loss experiences from violence situation, and spiritual health promotion. It was suggested  that to enhance the  nurses’ spiritual well-being by promoting  harmonious families, To further build-up  the peaceful situation in the Southern Border Provinces of Thailand and finally to maintain the good spiritual health promotion.
