The Operational Model for Golden Level Health Promoting School in Primary School of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration: A Case Study of Wat Suwonkili School

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study the operational model of the health promoting school, gold level, primary education of Metropolitans, Wat Suwonkili school. During the academic year 2007, the data collected from the 17 personnel who were involving in the operation of the health promoting school project by using a qualitative research methodology.

The findings showed that the operational model of the health promoting school, gold level, was completely operated based on the participation of all the involving parties, namely the academic enforcing group, the civic social group, and the local political group. Moreover, the findings showed a element of health promoting school, 1) School Policies 2) School Management Practices 3) School Community Project 4) Environmental School Health Service 5) Healthy School Service 6) Health Education in School 7) Nutrition/Food Safety 8) Physical Exercise, Sport, Recreation 9) Consulting/Social Support 10) Health promotion For Staff. The factors which contributed to the development of the health promoting school were the school administrators’ leadership and enthusiasm; the school personnel’s sense of belonging to the project and their teamwork; the participation of the community, parents and students; and the public health officers’ support and advice. The findings showed that the factors which inhibited to the health promoting school, were the school administrators’ insufficient knowledge about the work processes in the beginning stage; the school personnel’s unwillingness to participate in the project in the beginning stage; and an insufficiently allocated budget from the local politics.
