The Relationship between Perceived Childbirth Self-Efficacy and Birth Satisfaction of Parturients

This study was a descriptive research aimed at studying the relationship between perceived childbirth self-efficacy and birth satisfaction of parturients. The
researcher used reviews of textbooks, documents and researches related to birth satisfaction and Albert Bandura’s Self-Efficacy Theory as a conceptual framework for the study. The subjects were 200 parturients who visited the Antenatal Care Unit for antenatal care, gave birth and stayed at postpartum units at Ramathibodi Hospital, Phramongkutklao Hospital and BhumibolAdulyadej Hospital between May to August 2017. The subjects were purposively sampled based on inclusion criteria. Data collection instruments consisted of demographic data questionnaires, the childbirth self-efficacy inventory and the birth satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson’s product moment correlation. According to the findings, perceived childbirth self-efficacy significantly correlated with birth satisfaction at a statistical significance of r = .64, p < .05. In terms of recommendations from this study, nurses should promote perceived childbirth self-efficacy in parturients to help them build satisfaction in future childbirth ability.
