How to take care of patients with stroke

Abstract

Cerebrovascular disease either ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke cause disturbance of cerebral blood flow leading brain dysfunction and mostly affects motor or sensory symptoms. The objectives of Stroke Care are patients’ rehabilitation to maximize activities of daily living (ADL) function and giving caregiver confidence in caring safely. Role of caregivers and family is encouraging patients to self-care in ADL as much as they can. Applying some signs or symbols for those with communication barrier helps identifying patient needs. Nonetheless, prevention of complications such as aspirated pneumonia, pressure ulcer, stiff joint etc. and home environment resetting are important factors to promote functional recovery. Some patients suffer from depression and personality disorder after stroke. Health care team plays important roles in providing medical advice and emotional support to patients and caregivers
