The Readiness for Interprofessional Education among Undergraduate Students: A Case Study of a Volunteer Camp Project for Higher Education Institutions in Surat Thani Province

This descriptive case study aimed to assess and compare the readiness for interprofessional education (IPE) among undergraduate students, participating at a volunteer camp project for four higher education institutions in Surat Thani Province. The purposive samples of 80 students from Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Surat Thani, Rajabhat University, Prince of Songkla University at Surat Thani Campus, and Tapee University. The instrument for data collection was the Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale (RIPLS) with Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of .91. RIPLS scores were analyzed using percentage, means, and standard deviations. Independent t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to compare the mean scores difference of IPE.
The results showed that most of the samples are female (n= 93.75%), and second year nursing students (n= 72.1%). The mean score of the readiness for IPE is at a moderate level ( = 3.98, S.D. = 0.76). There was no significant different between gender, year of study, field of study, IPE experience, and the readiness for IPE.
The findings of this study suggested that the administrators of higher educational institutions in this province should prepare a meeting in order to develop a collaborative plan for IPE curriculum and extra-curricular activities.
