ภาวะการทำงานของระบบทางเดินอาหารผิดปกติหลังผ่าตัด ส่งผลต่อการฟื้นตัวด้านการทำหน้าที่ของลำไส้โดยเฉพาะผู้ป่วยที่เข้ารับการผ่าตัดแบบเปิดช่องท้องในผู้ป่วยมะเร็งลำไส้ใหญ่และทวารหนักที่รักษาตัวในหอผู้ป่วยวิกฤต ซึ่งอาจก่อให้เกิดภาวะแทรกซ้อนร้ายแรงและเพิ่มค่าใช้จ่ายในการรักษา การวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการศึกษากึ่งทดลอง มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเปรียบเทียบการฟื้นตัวด้านการทำหน้าที่ของลำไส้หลังผ่าตัดแบบเปิดช่องท้องในผู้ป่วยมะเร็งลำไส้ใหญ่และทวารหนักระหว่างกลุ่มที่ได้รับโปรแกรมการนวดกดจุดร่วมกับการจัดการอาการกับกลุ่มที่ได้รับการพยาบาลแบบเดิม กลุ่มตัวอย่างคือผู้ป่วยมะเร็งลำไส้ใหญ่ และทวารหนักที่ได้รับการผ่าตัดแบบเปิดช่องท้อง เข้ารับการรักษาตัวที่หอผู้ป่วยวิกฤตศัลยกรรมในโรงพยาบาลธรรมศาสตร์เฉลิมพระเกียรติ จำนวน 44 ราย (อายุ 20 ปีขึ้นไป) เป็นกลุ่มควบคุม 22 ราย และกลุ่มทดลอง 22 ราย คัดเลือกกลุ่มตัวอย่างแบบตามสะดวก กลุ่มทดลองได้รับโปรแกรมการจัดการอาการร่วมกับการนวดกดจุด เป็นเวลา 5 วันหลังการผ่าตัด โดยการเคลื่อนไหวลำตัวและขาวันละ 1 ครั้ง ครั้งละ 10-15 นาที ร่วมกับการนวดกดจุดบริเวณ Zusanli (ST-36) วันละ 2 ครั้ง ครั้งละ 10 นาที ส่วนกลุ่มควบคุมได้รับการพยาบาลตามมาตรฐาน เครื่องมือวิจัยประกอบด้วย โปรแกรมการนวดกดจุดร่วมกับการจัดการอาการ แบบสอบถามข้อมูลส่วนบุคคล แบบประเมินการฟื้นตัวด้านการทำหน้าที่ของลำไส้ และแบบประเมินพฤติกรรมในการจัดการกับอาการลำไส้หยุดทำหน้าที่หลังผ่าตัด วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้วยสถิติ Mann-Whitney U test และ Friedman test ผลการศึกษาพบว่าผู้ป่วยมะเร็งลำไส้ใหญ่และทวารหนักที่เข้ารับการผ่าตัดแบบเปิดช่องท้องภายหลังได้รับโปรแกรมการจัดการอาการร่วมกับการนวดกดจุดมีคะแนนเฉลี่ยการฟื้นตัวด้านการทำหน้าที่ของลำไส้หลังผ่าตัดวันที่ 3 ถึง 5 มากกว่ากลุ่มที่ได้รับการพยาบาลตามแบบเดิมอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ 0.05 (p<0.05) ผลการวิจัยแสดงให้เห็นว่าโปรแกรมนี้สามารถช่วยในการดูแลฟื้นฟูการทำงานของลำไส้หลังผ่าตัดในผู้ป่วยที่ได้รับการรักษาในหอผู้ป่วยวิกฤตได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ
