Policy on the Use of AI and AI-Assisted Technologies for Authors

Authors may use generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools to support manuscript preparation, such as language and grammar checking, translation, text restructuring, literature searching and review, as well as the creation of illustrative images and media.

The use of generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools to fabricate, falsify, or manipulate research data and findings is strictly prohibited. Authors must not generate or alter images and data derived from direct observation or experimentation in any way that misrepresents the evidence or findings, or creates misleading impressions. Fabricating non-existent references or using generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools in a manner that could constitute plagiarism, intellectual property infringement, or violation of personal rights and privacy is strictly prohibited.

Authors must verify the accuracy and appropriateness of content, data, research findings, and references generated or assisted by AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools before use, correct any identified errors, and confirm oversight and full accountability for the entire published work.

Generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools cannot be designated as authors or co-authors, as they cannot assume responsibility for the work, certify the integrity and accuracy of the content, or approve the final manuscript.

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools in accordance with journal requirements by specifying the tool name and version/model (if known), purpose, and scope of use, along with additional relevant details appropriate to the nature of the work. If AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools were utilized as part of the research methodology, their implementation must be described within the "Materials and Methods" section with sufficient detail to ensure auditability and reproducibility. Figures, images, or illustrations generated or modified using generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools must be disclosed in the captions or other designated sections as required by the journal.

Note: If no generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, or automated tools were used in the preparation of the manuscript or the research process, authors must confirm non-use under the "Declaration of AI and AI-Assisted Technologies" section in accordance with journal requirements.

Policy on the Use of AI and AI-Assisted Technologies for Reviewers

Reviewers may use generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools to support preparing their evaluation reports, such as refining language and grammar and organizing the structure of their comments.

Reviewers must not use generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools as a substitute for their own scholarly judgment and academic evaluation. Reviewers must not use generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools to evaluate manuscripts or generate review comments on their behalf, and must strictly adhere to the journal's confidentiality policies.

Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and all materials associated with the peer-review process. Uploading or inputting any part of the manuscript—including figures, tables, supplementary data, or confidential review details—into public generative AI, AI-Assisted systems, or automated tools via personal accounts, generic user accounts, or external services is strictly prohibited. Disabling data sharing for model training or de-identifying data does not constitute authorization to process confidential peer-review information through such systems.

Reviewers bear full responsibility for all comments, evaluations, and recommendations contained in the peer-review reports submitted to the editor.

Reviewers must verify the accuracy and appropriateness of any outputs generated by generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools before incorporating them into their reports.

Reviewers must disclose the use of generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools within the review report or notify the journal editor in accordance with the journal’s guidelines, stating the tool, model, version, purpose, specific stages of evaluation where it was applied, and a statement confirming that the reviewer has verified the content and assumes full responsibility, in compliance with the disclosure policy.

Policy on the Use of AI and AI-Assisted Technologies for Editors and Journal Staff

Editors and journal staff may use generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools that have undergone risk assessment and received formal approval from the journal owner or relevant governing bodies to assist with administrative and editorial tasks. These tasks include verifying document completeness and metadata, formatting articles, conducting literature searches to suggest potential authors/references, screening for manuscript similarity and reference duplication, drafting decision notification letters, and searching for or recommending reviewers.

Editors and journal staff must oversee the use of generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools in accordance with applicable terms and conditions. They must verify the accuracy, completeness, appropriateness, and potential biases that may compromise the fairness of AI-generated outputs before utilizing them.

Editors and journal staff must safeguard the confidentiality of manuscripts, peer-review reports, and related materials. Inputting such information into generative AI, AI-Assisted systems, or automated tools that are not officially approved for processing confidential data is strictly prohibited.

Editorial and academic decisions remain the sole duty and responsibility of the editor and cannot be delegated to or replaced by generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, or automated tools. Furthermore, generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools must not be used to determine publication ethics misconduct without formal review and adjudication by an academic publishing ethics/disciplinary committee.

Editors bear ultimate responsibility for all final decisions and any editorial content utilized.

If generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools are substantially utilized beyond the prescribed scope, such usage must be disclosed in accordance with journal guidelines and relevant policies.

Requirements for the Disclosure of AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools Use

Key Disclosure Components:

  • Tool and Version: Specify the name of the AI tool and the model or version used (if known).
  • Purpose and Stage of Use: Clearly specify the purpose and the exact stage at which generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools were used (e.g., language editing, literature search and review, data analysis, or image generation).
  • Extent and Nature of Use: Detail the specific sections of the manuscript, data, or figures that were assisted by generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools, along with the nature of their implementation.
  • Human Oversight and Accountability: Confirm that all outputs generated by generative AI, AI-Assisted technologies, and automated tools have been independently reviewed and validated, and confirm full accountability for the published content.
  • Additional Information (Where Applicable): When necessary, provide additional details such as specific prompts used, access dates, or tool limitations, depending on the nature of AI usage, verification requirements, or reproducibility needs.

Disclosures may be placed in the "Materials and Methods" section, figure captions, graphical abstract, or under the designated "Declaration of AI and AI-Assisted Technologies" section, in compliance with the journal’s instructions. Generative AI Use Disclosure Form
