Abstract

Background: Non communicable diseases (NCD) is a major public health problem in the world. From the World Health Organization report found that high blood pressure mortality rate per hundred thousand populations. In overall, the country in the year 2013-2015 is 8.09, 18.28 and 25.32 respectively.

Objective: To identify factor that associated with health promoting behaviors in hypertensive Patients, Outpatient Department Krathumbaen Hospital Samutsakorn Province.

Material and Method: Descriptive study, collected data by questionnaire and analyzed by using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics.

Result: The result showed that the samples were female 71.1%, mean age more than 60 years 46.5%, primary education level 64.2%, had not occupation 66.4% and 45.7% had family history of hypertension. Health promotion behaviors were a moderate level ( = 2.39, SD= 1.33) Perceived social support was at a medium level ( = 3.07, SD = 1.36). Support from peer groups was at a moderate level ( = 2.86, SD = 1.50). Perceived self-efficacy in controlling hypertension at the highest level ( = 3.73, SD = 1.71) and that perceived self-efficacy of hypertensive patients were positively correlated with health promoting behaviors at the level of 0.05.

Conclusion: This study suggested that encourage patients and family members to participate with the medical team in continuing care for good health promotion behavior. Which results in a commitment to change behavior that is different from the original. Which will make patients with hypertension have a good quality of life.
