The Outcome of Use Video for Pre-Operation on Anxiety in Non-Admission Patient Cataract Surgery.

Abstract

Background: Most cataracts occur in the elderly (aging cataract) and are a public health problem in Thailand and causing economic losses and can easily cause premature death.

 Objective: To study the effect of providing information using video media to prepare before surgery on anxiety in people undergoing cataract surgery without overnight stay.

 Materials and Methods: It was a quasi-experimental research, before and after one group test. Data were collected by using questionnaires and analyzed by descriptive statistics. Distribution, frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation of anxiety levels were compared between before and after experiment with Paired t – test.

Result: The results showed that anxiety score was improve after experiment with statistical significance, 59.12 vs 31.14, respectively.

Conclusion: Using the video media, preparation for non-overnight cataract surgery is very important and necessary for patients who require cataract without overnight surgery and use as basic information in managing health services and lay out nursing forms suitable for patients before cataract surgery and other eye diseases with anxiety before undergoing surgery and can reduce costs, waste, workload of the hospital healthcare providers and patients as well. In addition, patients and relatives are satisfied with the service and video media that has been create.
