Pregnancy Outcomes in Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A 5-year Experience

Abstract

Background: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a multisystem autoimmune disease which commonly affects women of childbearing age. SLE with pregnancy can affect fetal and maternal outcome and activity of disease.

Objective: To determine rate of flares and pregnancy outcomes in SLE patients with pregnancy at Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital, dating back 5 years.

Materials and Methods: A retrospective for a period of 5 years by collected data from medical records of pregnant SLE who treatment and follow up at Maharaj Nakhon SiThammarat Hospital. Data were analyzed by using descriptive study such as frequency, percentage.

 

Results: Thirty-nine pregnancies were observed in 24 patients. Mean age 29 ± 4.64 years, 9 (23%) spontaneous abortions, 4 (10.3%) still births or death fetus in utero, 23 (59%) terms, 1 (2.6%) preterm and 2 (5.1%) therapeutic abortions, 3 (7.6%) pre-eclampsia and 4 (10.2%) disease flares.

Conclusion: SLE who disease remission over 6 months and planed before pregnancy helped good fetal and maternal outcome.
