Abstract

Background:  Endotracheal intubation is a common emergency procedure in emergency department. Rapid sequence intubation is a procedure that use to improve success rate and decrease complication rate worldwide.

Objective: To study success rate and complication rate of rapid sequence intubation in emergency department of Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital.

Materials and Methods:  A Retrospective descriptive study was conducted in all patients who receive rapid sequence intubation in emergency department of Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital from 1st January 2018 – 31th December 2019. The data of success rate and complication rate were collected.

Results: There were 19 patients. All of them were male (100%) with age of  36 – 84 years old, average age of 65 years. 12 patients (63.2%) were diagnosed COPD with exacerbation, 4 patients (21.1%) were diagnosed pneumonia, and 3 patients (15.7%) were diagnosed other. Success rate of rapid sequence intubation is 100% and has no complication.

Conclusions: Rapid sequence intubation in Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital (1,000 bed-province hospital) by specialist is safe and high success rate.
