Abstract

Background: The evaluation of  WHO found that  cataracts are a major cause of blindness in the global population.It is estimated thatthe blind will increase to 76 million people in 2020. The screening of cataracts in the elderlyatNamom  hospital in 2017-2019 show that abnormal eyesight 566 case, there were 106 (18%) cataract patients. There were 41 (37.74 %) patients who did not have cataract extraction. There are such reasons the researcher interested to study in the elderly who have to  cataract extraction but they did not have, to know the cause why these elderly people do not have cataract extraction. Which will be able to use the information to develop and improve the service further.

 Objective: To study the cause and the relationship between personal factors and the decision to treat cataracts

Materials and Methods: The sample group selected by purposive sampling was aged 60 years and over who participated in the cataract screening program of Na Mom Hospital in 2017-2019. It was found that there were 106 cataracts. Only data that will be used in the study, while the general data analysis of the sample group uses frequency, percentage and comparative analysis. Individuals that affect the decision to treat cataracts using chi-square

Results: MostThe most of sample were female 58.5 %, mean age 73 years old, farmers occupation 83.02%, monthly income of 1,000-5,000 baht, 72.6% And most have no congenital disease, 68.87%. Individual factors and the decision to treat cataracts showed that sex, age, income had no significant effect on the treatment of cataracts. The occupation and the underlying disease affected the treatment of cataracts significantly different at .05.
