Abstract

Oroantral communications (OACs) are rare complication of oral surgery. The extraction of maxillary posterior teeth is the most common cause of OACs, especially the upper first molar.  The patients require proper surgical treatment for the OACs, including the flap procedure and Caldwell-Luc operation. Caldwell-Luc operations were performed in cases of fractured roots that in the maxillary sinus. We report a 44-year-old female  underwent the left upper first molar tooth extraction. It was found that the remnant fractured  palatal root was pushed into the left maxillary sinus,  the OAC occurred. The fractured root  was removed by the Caldwell-Luc operation and the buccal advancement flap was used for OAC closure. Combining the result of the 3 week- Amoxicillin+Clavulanic acid  (2g/day) prescription, the clinical condition was improved during the 1.5-month follow-up period.
