Abstract
Objectives: To study the stress and associated factors of students in the Institute of Legal Education Thai Bar Association in Bangkok Metropolis.
Method: Four hundred and thirty-six participants were recruited from the Institute of Legal Education Thai Bar Association during June to October 2008. The participants completed five
questionnaires: 1) Socio-demographic Questionnaire 2) Suan Prung Stress Test (SPST-20) 3) Learning Attitude Questionnaire 4) Social Support Questionnaire and 5) Stress Management
Questionnaire. The studentsû stress and stress level were presented by mean with standard deviation, proportion and percentage. The relationship between the studentsû stress level and associated factors were analyzed by using chi-square test. Logistic regression was used to identify the risk factor of highly stress level in Thai Bar students. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Result: The mean score of studentsû stress was 45.6 (SD=12.3). More than half of the students (58.7%) had the high-to-severe level of stress. The associated factors of high to severe included negative attitude on learning contents and learning readiness (p<0.01), denial of stressors, negative emotional expression and finding supportive person (p<0.01), working while studying (p<0.01), salary and family financial status (p<0.05). After performing logistic regression, the remaining factors of high-to-severe level of stress were negative emotional expression, finding supportive person (p<0.01), negative attitude on learning readiness and working while studying (p<0.05).
Conclusion: More than half of the students (58.7%) had the high-to-severe level of stress. The factors associated with high-to-severe stress level were negative attitude on learning readiness, negative emotional expression, finding supportive person and working while studying.
