Effect of an Episodic Memory Training Program-Emotionally-focused in the elderly

Abstract
Objective :
To study effect of an Episodic Memory Training Program-Emotionally-focused (EMTP-E) in the elderly.Methods :
A quasi-experiment, pretest-posttest study was conducted.The subjects were elderly people in the Ban Bang Khae Social Welfare Development Center for Older Persons. Eighteen participants were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group participated in the EMTP-E, which was conducted in 10 sessions. Each session was an hour and a half long. The control group received regular activities. Comparison episodic memory scores of the experimental group before and after participating in EMTP-E and those scores between the experimental and control group by using a story memory subtest and a picture memory subtest from Wide Range Assessment of Memory and Learning, Second Edition (WRAML2) were analyzed by using Mann Whitney U test.Results :
The results of this study revealed statistically significant differences between the experimental group’s pretest and posttest story memory scores and picture memory scores (p<.05) and between the experimental group and the control group’s posttest story memory scores and picture memory scores (p<.05).Conclusion :
The findings suggest that the Episodic Memory Training Program- Emotionally-focused (EMTP-E) may help to improve episodic memory in the elderly.Article Details
