Abstract

Recommendations for the pharmacotherapy of mental disorders presented here are rudimentary advices for choosing psychotropic medications. They were derived from the indications approved by the Thai Food and Drugs Authority and recommendations given by current clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) in psychiatry. Target users of these recommendations are psychiatrists, physicians, and health professionals in health care settings. Methods used for the development included the listing of mental disorders, the listing of psychotropic medications available in Thailand, the summarizing of psychotropic drug indications corresponding to the listed mental disorders, the searching of CPGs published between 2010 and 2013, and the summarizing of key recommendations given by the CPGs with approved quality. For example, medications indicated for enuresis are amitriptyline, clomipramine, or imipramine. In addition, some CPGs also recommended the use of desmopressin, anticholinergics, desmopressin combination, tricyclic antidepressants, or imipramine for this mental disorder. Recommendation users should fully understand the statement of intent and the limitations of these advices before using them.
