Abstract

Abstract: An 11-year-old boy presented having suffered a prolonged fever. The initial chest X-ray revealed a mass at the left lower lung. Computed topography (CT) of the chest showed a hyper-vascularized mass with some calcification.Surgery exposed a solid mass occupying the left lower lung with surrounding tissue invasion. Lobectomy and regional lymph node removal were performed.
The histopathologic findings confirmed a solid pleuropulmonary blastoma comprising primitive blastoma wth multidirectional differentiation. Ten days after surgery, the boy developed seizures as the tumor had metastasized to the brain. Subsequent combination chemotherapy, consisting of vincristine, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin and etoposide, was administered with irradiation. A follow-up CT of the brain showed the metastatic mass had decreased in size. The tumor in the brain was surgically removed and the patient has been well in the six months since.
