Understanding and satisfaction in drug labeling according to rational drug use hospital project of non communicable disease patients

Abstract

Introduction: Drug labeling according to Rational Drug Use (RDU) Hospital project was used as a pharmacistws necessary tool for medical information delivering to promote proper use of medication. Warin Chamrab Hospital developed the RDU labeling since 2015, then reading behavior, understanding and satisfaction of RDU labels were evaluated. Methods: Exploratory study of 162 patients with accidental sampling using questionnaire about reading behavior, understanding and satisfaction in RDU labels were done during December 2015 in NCDs patients or caregivers who received medicine from dispensary clinic, Warin Chamrab Hospital. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Of all 162 patients, label reading was 54.9%. Most of them read how to take medicine (98.1%) more than name of medicine (30.9%), 94.7% understand what were shown on the RDU labels. The study revealed that 95.1% satisfy with RDU labels and most of satisfaction was enriched information (98.8%). Conclusion: Half of NCDs patients more understand in medical administration from RDU labels than previously. Patients more satisfaction in RDU labels than conventional labels since RDU labels provided more necessary information, therefore should promote RDU labels in all health services in order to help pharmacist communicate an important information to the patients in a limited of time. Moreover, pharmacist should access patient recognition and more emphasize in an importance of reading medicine name to encourage them more understanding and use their medication properly and safety.
