Abstract
Introduction: Thailand is a member of ASEAN countries which tremendous of labor migrate across border. Some evidences showed that they are unplanned pregnancy among these women workers. At present, perception and behavior of oral contraceptive (OC) pills use among them still scarce. This study aimed to evaluate perception, behavior of OC pills use and determine factors associated to regularity of OC pills use. Methods: Women foreign workers age between 18-55 years old who were accidentally randomized from street market and Ban Na Derm District Hospital, Suratthani province. They were interviewed using questionnaire by a language interpreter. Statistical analysis was performed for factors association by univariable and multivariable logistic regression. Results: Among 122 samples, average age±S.D was 7.97±30.54 years old, all had primary school education, time to use OC pills was 1.01- 5 years (54.4%), and 77.1% regularly took OC pills. Factors found to associate with regularity of OC pills use when analyzed with univariable logistic regression were those who know benefits of the pill, OR 5.73(95%CI: 1.39-23.62), those who knew to stop the OC pill while being pregnant, OR 7.42(95%CI: 2.23-24.70), those who knew precautions of OC such as in cardiovascular disease and uterus cancer, OR 4.48(95%CI: 0.97- 20.60), and knew that smoking is prohibited among who are taking OC pills, OR 9.00(95%CI: 2.74- 29.53). However, the result from multivariable logistic regression analysis found only perception of not using the OC pills when pregnant had association with regularly use, Adj. OR 8.07(95%CI: 1.42-45.80). Conclusion: The association of perception of stopping the OC pills while pregnant was found to be the only factor with regularly use. Perception of benefits, and precautions for OC pills use had positive trend to regularity use. Therefore, pharmacists and health care staffs should emphasize related knowledge of OC to increase better behavior among women foreign workers.
