Abstract

Introduction: The objective of this research was to develop a computer program to manage a pharmaceutical care database for asthmatic patients in order to use quality of life questionnaire in routine clinical practice.Method: The computer software was designed and developed from a pharmaceutical care database form with the use of Microsoft Access 2003. The monitoring part of this software contains Thai MiniAQLQ. Results: The software components of this program are separated into 3 sections. The first section is the patient data section such as demographic data, diagnosis, laboratory and clinical monitoring including quality of life evaluation and medication profile. The second section is the pharmaceutical care section such as drug related problems and pharmacist actions. The last section is the report section such as drug related problems and pharmacist intervention reports. This program was first implemented in January 2009 to provide pharmaceutical care for asthmatic patients in hospital. Using this program a pharmacist could collect, retrieve, analyze, and report data of pharmaceutical care for asthmatic patients including the use of Thai MiniAQLQ to evaluate patient quality of life. Discussion and conclusion: A Pharmaceutical Care Database Management Software for asthmatic patients was developed to serve the needs of pharmaceutical care and to evaluate patients’ quality of life.
