Peer Review Process

Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Medicine (BSCM) is committed to a rigorous, fair, and transparent peer-review process. Manuscripts are evaluated based on their scientific quality, methodological rigor, originality, relevance to the journal's scope, and contribution to biomedical sciences, clinical medicine, and related health sciences.

1.Manuscript Submission:

Authors submit manuscripts through the ThaiJO online submission system. All required files and information should be provided in accordance with the journal's Author Guidelines.

2.Editorial Office Check:

Estimated time: 2–5 days

The Editorial Office conducts an initial technical and administrative check to ensure manuscript completeness and compliance with the journal's submission requirements, including formatting, authorship information, ethical requirements and declarations, required files, figures and tables, references, and English-language readability.

The manuscript is also assessed to determine whether the English is sufficiently clear and comprehensible for scientific evaluation.Manuscripts requiring substantial language revision that prevents adequate scientific assessment may be returned to the authors for language improvement before proceeding to editorial screening. Minor grammatical or stylistic imperfections that do not interfere with scientific understanding will not, by themselves, prevent a manuscript from proceeding.

Incomplete submissions may be returned to the authors for technical correction before editorial screening.

3.Initial Editorial Screening by the Editor-in-Chief:

Estimated time: 3–7 days

The Editor-in-Chief (EIC) assesses the manuscript for scope, relevance, and overall editorial suitability.

Manuscripts that are outside the journal's scope or do not meet the journal's basic editorial criteria may be rejected without external peer review.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to an Associate Editor (AE) with appropriate subject expertise.

4.Associate Editor Assessment and Reviewer Assignment:

Estimated time: 3–7 days

The Associate Editor assesses the manuscript's scientific quality, methodological rigor, originality, and relevance and identifies appropriate reviewers for external peer review.

The Associate Editor manages reviewer selection and the peer-review process.

5.External Peer Review:

Estimated time: 3–6 weeks

Manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review by two or more independent expert reviewers with relevant subject expertise. The identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed during the review process.

Reviewers assess the scientific quality, methodology, interpretation, originality, and relevance of the manuscript and provide recommendations to the Associate Editor.

6.Associate Editor Decision:

Estimated time: 3–7 days after receipt of sufficient reviewer reports

The Associate Editor evaluates the reviewers' reports together with the manuscript and makes one of the following decisions:

Reject — The manuscript is not suitable for publication.

Minor Revision — Limited revisions are required before further consideration.

Major Revision — Substantial revisions are required before further consideration.

Recommend Acceptance — The manuscript is considered suitable for publication and is recommended to the Editor-in-Chief for final approval.

Revision and Re-evaluation

Author revision period: approximately 1–4 weeks
Editorial re-evaluation: approximately 3–14 days

Authors should submit a revised manuscript together with a point-by-point response to the reviewers' and editors' comments.

The Associate Editor evaluates the revised manuscript and may seek additional review from the original or additional reviewers when necessary. Further revision may be requested if the reviewers' or editors' concerns have not been adequately addressed.

Once the manuscript is considered suitable for publication, the Associate Editor recommends acceptance to the Editor-in-Chief.

7.Final Acceptance by the Editor-in-Chief:

Estimated time: 3–7 days

Manuscripts recommended for acceptance are submitted to the Editor-in-Chief for final approval.

Final acceptance is subject to approval by the Editor-in-Chief.

8.Production and Online Publication:

Estimated time: 2–4 weeks

Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, typesetting, author proofing, and final quality control before online publication.

Following completion of the production process, articles are published online in accordance with the journal's publication schedule and online publication policy.

Processing Time
Processing times are approximate and may vary depending on manuscript complexity, reviewer availability, the number of revision rounds, and the time required for authors to complete revisions.

Reviewer Availability
The journal will make reasonable efforts to identify and secure qualified independent reviewers. In exceptional circumstances, if sufficient appropriate reviewers cannot be secured within six months despite repeated attempts, the journal may discontinue the peer-review process and decline the manuscript. Authors will be informed promptly of the decision.

Editorial Decisions
Reviewer recommendations are advisory and do not determine the editorial decision. Editorial decisions are based on the reviewers' reports together with the editor's independent assessment of the manuscript. Final acceptance is subject to approval by the Editor-in-Chief.
