Abstract

Objective:  To analyze the agreement and correlation between the sum scores of Srithanya Stress Scale (ST-5) and those of 9Q in quarantined people under Thailand state quarantine for COVID-19 from May 2020 to June 2022.

Methods: Non-identifiable data were received from the Department of Mental Health which included gender, age, career 2Q, 8Q, 9Q, and ST-5 items. Descriptive statistic was used. The internal consistency of ST-5 was estimated among 4 age groups. The coefficient correlations were analyzed by intraclass correlation (ICC) and binary correlation among ST-5, 2Q, 9Q, and 8Q.

Results: There were 49,809 records assessed for the first time. Most persons were female (58.3%). The mean age was 36.9 years old. The mean scores of ST-5, 9Q, 8Q were 2.3±2.3, 0.8±2.5, and 0.1±1.3, respectively. The corrected item total correlation of ST-5 ranged from 0.43 - 0.63.  ICC (95%CI) between ST-5 & 2Q, ST-5 &9Q, ST-5& 8Q were 0.34 (0.33, 0.36), 0.75 (0.75,0.76) and 0.34 (0.33,0.35), respectively. The binary correlation coefficient ranged from 0.24 to 0.61. ST-5 was then classified by 9Q (ST-5_dep) into 4 levels as no symptom, mild, moderate, and severe at the score of 0-4, 5-8, 9-11, and ≥12. The absolute ICC (95%CI) of ST-5_dep – 9Q were not different from those of ST-5 and 9Q (0.74(0.71, 0.76), VS 0.74 (0.70, 0.77)).

Conclusion: The ST-5 was consistently reliable among all ages (ranging from 12-93 years), and the sum scores of ST-5 were strongly concordant with those of 9Q. Therefore, ST-5 could be used as a screening tool for both stress and depression at the previously recommended cut of scores for stress level.
