The Effects of a Training Program for Developing Counseling Skills, on Counseling Skills, Attitude, and Service Behavior among nurses in a General Patient Nursing Department, Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital

Abstract
Objective: To examined the effects of a training program for developing counseling skills, on counseling skills, attitude, and service behavior among nurses in a general patient nursing department, Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai hospital
Materials and Methods: In this quasi-experimental research, the samples were 24 nurses and 47 clients who voluntarily participated in the training program. The instruments used in this study were a counseling skills training program, a questionnaire to discern the counseling skills of nurses, a questionnaire evaluating the counseling attitudes of nurses, and a questionnaire on nursing service behaviors dependent on the client’s perceptions. Data was analyzed by using percent, mean, and t-test.
Results: The mean scores of counseling skills and attitude among nurses at the end of the Training Program were significantly higher than before enrolling in the program (p< 0.05). The mean scores of nursing service behavior among clients at the end of the Training Program were good and very good.
Conclusion: The Training Program for Developing Counseling Skills revealed to be an effective way to develop skills and attitudes in these areas. In addition, it was effective in developing service behavior among nurses.
