Abstract

Schizophrenia is the most common psychiatric problem and a chronic disorder of thought, perception, mood, and behavior. Symptoms often occur gradually and patients eventually become unable to perform their daily life duties, work, and health care. This article aims to present advanced pathophysiology and pharmacology, including causes, progression, treatment, and prognosis. Analysis of critical issues led to the suggestions that can be useful to care for patients with schizophrenia. These suggestions enable nurses to provide appropriate nursing care for schizophrenic patients, resulting in the prevention of recurrence and enhancing their livability in society.
